New York Parental Alienation Syndrome (PAS) Attorney

The Law Firm of Elliot S. Schlissel Is Committed to Fighting for Fathers’ Rights Throughout the New York Metropolitan Area

Parent alienation is not a new concept; however, it has become more accepted by New York courts in recent years. The Law Firm of Elliot S. Schlissel handled one of the earliest cases in New York where a child was awarded to a parent because of parental alienation.

What Is Parental Alienation Syndrome or PAS?

R.A. Gardner, generally credited with the discovery of parental alienation syndrome (PAS) defines it as follows:

''The parental alienation syndrome (PAS) is a disorder that arises primarily in the context of child-custody disputes. Its primary manifestation is the child's campaign of denigration against a parent, a campaign that has no justification. It results from the combination of a programming (brainwashing) parent's indoctrinations and the child's own contributions to the vilification of the target parent. 1''

Parental alienation syndrome is not always obvious. Approximately 20% of the cases are the result of the programming parents' direct, negative verbal comments or overt actions; however, in the vast majority of cases, PAS is caused by subtle negative actions on the part of the programming parent, such as frowning or being dismissive of the other parent.
